Cascadia Distillery, once Potter Distillery, is in Kelowna, British Columbia. Kelowna is the largest city on Lake Okanagan. It's known for its mild weather and sunshine. Kelowna means 'Grizzly Bear' in the local language. Yet, the area has Brown Bears, not Grizzlies.
The distillery's story is rich. Captain Harold Cameron bought Potter’s Distilleries in 1962. The distillery moved to Kelowna in 1990 and became Cascadia Brands Inc. in 1995. It stopped operating in 2006.
Before closing in 2005, Highwood Distillers bought Cascadia Brands. They are a family-owned Canadian distillery. They added over a dozen new brands. Cascadia Distillery only makes products for one week a year. This keeps its licence. Highwood Distillers calls it 'active'.
Cascadia is on Granville Islands Brewery's grounds. They make whisky by blending base whisky with other whiskies. Despite limited production, Cascadia is important in Canadian whisky history.
