Given that the biggest drinkers of gin in Europe are the Spanish, it is perhaps not surprising that there a number of excellent gin distillers currently in production all across España. Nordés are one such brand, one that takes its name from the eponymous mythical northerly Atlantic wind which blows through Galicia and is thought to bring good weather and, supposedly, good wishes.
A textbook example of superb Spanish gin, Nordés Gin is distilled at the Atlantic Galician Spirits Distillery in Vedra, close to Santiago de Compostela, using a host of natural botanical elements. Among the fourteen used are liquorice, eucalyptus, caralleira grass, salicornia, tea, cardamom, quinine, ginger and juniper - six of which are are harvested from Galician, before Albariño grape spirit, made from the Spanish white wine grape, is added, giving Nordés a truly singular profile that’s rooted in provenance.
Whether it’s locally-sourced ingredients or the unique, wide, 12-sided cylinder bottle with maritime themes, it’s obvious that Nordés has placed an emphasis on incorporating the vibrant culture of Galicia into its core expression. The Galician distillers must have used up a few of those good wishes, as it has proved to be an inspired release for Atlantic Galician Spirits.
