Girolamo Luxardo founded the company in 1821 in Zara, now in Croatia. The company made a liqueur from marasca cherries. Girolamo's wife, Maria Canevari, created the recipe. It involved crushing the whole fruit and fermenting it before distillation. After four years of refining, Maraschino Luxardo became popular.

The Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur is clear with a smooth taste. It has hints of cherry and almond from the cherry pits. This makes it popular in many cocktails, like the Aviation and Hemingway Daiquiri.

Over the years, Luxardo expanded its range. They keep their focus on quality and tradition.
