Lough Gill Whiskey
Lough Gill Distillery in County Sligo stands as a testament to the art of traditional whiskey making merged with modern techniques. The process starts with carefully sourced malted barley from the Hook Head Peninsula. This barley is milled into grist, then mashed to extract fermentable sugars. Fermentation then converts these sugars into alcohol. Throughout, the distillery prioritises energy efficiency, using a state-of-the-art heat recovery system. Distillation, done traditionally three times in copper pot stills, concentrates the alcohol, preserving the spirit's character. Finally, the liquid is casked in ex-Bourbon barrels, maturing until it earns the coveted title of 'whiskey'.
