Georges Duboeuf Wine

Georges Duboeuf was one of the most influential figures in the Beaujolais wine region of France, often referred to as the ‘King of Beaujolais’. Born in 1933, he founded his own wine company, Les Vins Georges Duboeuf, in the 1960s. His work was crucial in popularising the Beaujolais Nouveau, a young wine made from Gamay grapes that is released for sale just weeks after harvest. He helped make the the annual Beaujolais Nouveau release a global phenomenon, celebrated on the third Thursday of November each year. The wines of Georges Duboeuf are renowned for their vibrant fruit flavours, distinctive because of the carbonic maceration fermentation process which emphasises fresh, fruity aromas without extracting bitter tannins. His company produces a wide range of wines, from the light and fresh Beaujolais Villages to the more complex and structured Cru Beaujolais, which come from ten designated high-quality areas within the Beaujolais region. As well as Beaujolais, George Dubeouf also produces wines in the Languedoc including a syrah rosé.
