Agora Vermouth, started by Arthur Voulgaris, is a boutique vermouth brand. It comes from a keen taste and a wish to improve vermouth. Made in Suffolk, near the River Deben, Agora aims to refresh vermouth with balance, finesse, and richness. They also steer clear of anything synthetic or artificial.
Voulgaris's love for vermouth began when he was a bartender in Melbourne in the late 90s. His love affair with cocktails followed him around the world from Australia to sipping Manhattans in New York. Watching the Negroni become popular in Melbourne over 20 years influenced his vision for Agora. All this inspired him to make a top-quality vermouth.
Agora aims to challenge common vermouth ideas, like being too sweet or artificially coloured. Voulgaris uses Merlot and Cabernet grapes to make a rosso vermouth. He balances wormwood and sugar well, avoiding too much bitterness. His aim to bring back the traditional red wine base in rosso vermouth shows his dedication to authenticity.
The brand's name, Agora, is Greek for 'marketplace'. It honours Voulgaris's Greek roots from Kos. Agora is more than a product. It's a blend of culture and personal stories.
