Rémy Martin
Cognac
Rémy Martin VSOP is a cognac that has been produced by Rémy Martin since 1724. The name "VSOP" stands for "Very Superior Old Pale". Rémy Martin VSOP is made from a blend of Grande and Petite Champagne cognacs and is aged for a minimum of four years in French oak barrels. Rémy Martin VSOP is characterized by its smooth, mellow flavour and its amber colour.
Rémy Martin VSOP is one of the most popular cognacs on the market and has won numerous awards throughout the years. Rémy Martin VSOP was awarded a Gold Medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London in 2011, and a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2012. Rémy Martin VSOP is also a favourite of celebrities, including Jay-Z, who has mentioned the cognac in several of his songs.
An immensely popular VSOP Cognac from the ever-dependable Rémy Martin. The blend contains 55% Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie, the rest being made up of the Petite Champagne. Well-suited as a postprandial tipple, but can also be used in cocktails that need a hearty helping of complex Cognac flavours.
Berry fruits and sweet cereals. White grape, a touch of black olive and custard cream.
Vanilla, manuka honey and red berry coulis. Dried figs, banana chips and a touch of spice.
Truffle and honey.

We should remind ourselves what the term "mature cask finish" means: The cognac is aged in used, flavour-less, old barrels. Hennessy XO for example states that most of their XO eau-de-vies start in frehsly charred barrels, soaking up the most intense flavours from the fresh (burned) wood. Now Remy is dealing mostly with customers that do not understand that. When some hear: "Aged in old barrels", they may think of long ageeing, while in fact the spirit is aged in garbage-quality barrels that have served their life. It is true altough that such an old barrel may keep some of the flavour of the previous, longer aged spirit (used for XOs). Now to the taste. Directly Compares to Courvoisier VSOP and Hennessy VSOP I found: Green unripe pear, soap (!), unpleasant acidity and yeast. Guess why I still drink it: It always serves as a benchmark since I am used to drink at least two cognacs at a time. This way, I better appreciate and differenciate the taste components of the other cognacs.
Solid choice for cocktails, punchy and rich. Bung it in with champagne and lemon, get in there! I can’t recommend drinking this neat - it’s just too harsh on its own. Tame it with plenty of ice if you must - but if you want a good value Cognac for drinking neat or with a little ice - Henessey Fine De Cognac spanks this soundly.
Have read all review and can see many disappointed people, my disappointment is for a different reason. I am a celiac sufferer. On both occasions of drinking this drink ,I have had reactions ? Clearly printed on allergen list that there are no known allegents? Very stange
Dissapointment is a best word to describe this "Cognac".In comparison the Martel VSOP is for the similar price just two classes above this one.
Unfortunately the critical reviews seem to be right. I bought a bottle late last year and thought it tasted different from how I remeber it to be (super velvety smooth pure cognac taste, delicious). NOW it struck me with a cinnamony taste I can’t remember ever having noticed before. It was so much like a cinamon liquor I decided to google “has the taste of remy martin vsop changed”. Guess what shows up... UTTERLY disappointed. Won’t buy it anymore. Need to find a good alternative, any suggestions?!
