In August 1973, DJ Kool Herc hosted a party in the Bronx and used his turntables to isolate and repeat instrumental breaks in songs, creating a new sound that would eventually become hip-hop. 50 years later, Hennessy is marking the anniversary with limited-edition collectors' bottles of Hennessy V.S., in this case paying homage to rapper Nas. The Cognac comes with its own signature serve, Bitter Beats.
Signature cocktail: Bitter Beats
50 ml Hennessy VS Limited Edition NAS
10 ml orange-coloured simple syrup
3 dashes Fee Brothers Aztec chocolate bitters
Combine 50ml of 1:1 simple syrup with four drops of orange food colouring to create your orange-coloured simple syrup. In a mixing glass filled with ice, add the Hennessy Cognac and the bitters then stir until well-chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over one large clear ice cube. Garnish with a pipette containing orange-coloured simple syrup. Stir to combine and chill.
