A classic VSOP cognac, this is matured for between 8 and 12 years in a selection of Troncais and Limousin oak barrels.
The Courvoisier brandy used in this bottling is sourced from the two premier regions of Cognac - the Grande Champagne and the Petite Champagne regions.
Whole coffee beans, mint leaves, kumquat, and red grape notes appear at first. Give it a minute and more savoury elements appear, with hints of buttered brown bread and a little whiff of sawdust.
More coffee notes as it opens (this would be a really good partner to espresso after a big meal). Develops touches of brown sugar, waxy apple peels, sweet pea, and a fragrant oakiness.
Ooh, a nice waft of almost-smoky cinnamon on the finish. Slowly becomes sweeter with fresh pear and gummy bears.
Iv tried so many brandy’s my friend introduce me to this vsop and got to say I’m hooked ,I like to have 125 mils in the evening so yes it will now find a place on my bar
Interesting how 1 star and 5 star reviews can be both right. Just bought a bottle after a loong while. It seems somewhere between 2013 and 2018 there was a big let down on what was previously a fine champagne cognac. It did hit you with alcohol fumes, where before you had all this lovely sensations. However, in August 2021 I am happy to report that the cofffee, mint, followed by some cinnamon and a smooth finish are back. Unsure for how long, but it is a great vsop. Way below what an amazing cognac tastes like. But best value for money in a while. It is once more the "almost" real McCoy
I have courvoisier vsop, hennessy vs, martell vsop, martell vs, right now. As for bottle goes, courvoisier bottle is the best of all these. Big heavy glass on the bottom, long neck like some scotish pot stils, taste wise a very good stuff. You can wash your mouth literally for minutes. Way better than martell vs, hennessy vs comes close, but not there, martell vsop is even. I might prefer martell vsop, has maybe more character, but it all depends on a day. How palate goes. Current score here 3/5 is really low, so I am giving it 5/5, but I have the nee bottle. Anyways...No worries for having this one in your rotation in you cabinet, even as a every day drink. Even if you are a bourbon and malt guy, and want just occasional smooth cognac, like me. Sure, it is not martell xo, but the price is phenomenal.
I truly love this cognac. Its floral and elegant, with nice coffee notes. Couldn't recommend a VSOP more.
So far from the real things ... Hopelessly far ...
