Hubert
Hubert creates some superb farm-produced Calvados in the Pay D'age les Vergers de la Moriniere county, and this 2009 vintage is no exception. Fruit from the 200-year-old tree next to the brand's cellar was used in this edition of single-vintage expression, which was aged in oak barrels for a short time.
Bursting with apples, pears and rich vanilla. Baking spice and a touch of toasty oak bring depth.
Calvados seems to be a bit difficult to find in this country so I am thankful to Master of Malt. The distillers seem to be much of a muchness and I was as delighted with this bottle as I have been heretofore with others. I have two apple trees in my garden and a wife who knows how to cook apple crumble. A small glass with an apple dessert is a joy in life. Go for it.
