The VSOP expression from Pays d'Auge Calvados producer, Busnel. Following its double distillation, this Calvados spends at least 4 years in oak casks before being bottled, resulting in a depth of warming, intriguing oak-y spices, which blend well with the bright, almost creamy apple notes.
I had higher hopes for this Calvados but wasn't very happy with it. There's a strong mineral flavor overall. The apple profile is weak and it tastes like a bottle of good calvados has been thinned out with grain alcohol. Definitely won't be buying again.
a complex bouquet and flavor. The apples are definitely there. It reminds me of a very old homemade wine that I found in the basement of an old farm house back in 2009 (it was dated 1979). that wine was made from pears and was without a doubt the best wine I have ever tasted in my life. this calvados reminds me of that-but at 80 proof. Lairds is doing it wrong. this is how it should be.
