Made with Parellada grapes, a traditional Catalan variety, and Ugni Blanc grapes, which are more commonly found in Cognac and Italian wines, the Torres 20 is a well crafted expression. The brandy spends its maturation in Limousin oak casks. The result is an elegant, rich and decadently flavoursome Spanish brandy.
A good example of a more matured Spanish brandy, best drunk neat it is too good to mix.
A credit to Spain, love the caramel tones and will order again.
After reading about this brandy, I had certain expectations. There are Ugni Blanc grapes in the mix, and unlike other Spanish brandies, it is not aged with the solera method. As I thought, what you get is something closer to a French brandy than typical Spanish fayre. The nose and initial flavour could be that of a dry cognac, where you can taste the underlying white wine. The finish had longevity, with a big peppery oak punch, but the effect is closer to whisky than cognac or Armagnac. The mark of a good brandy is an aftertaste which gradually unfolds layers of flavour, sadly that is what is missing here, the oakiness lingers, but doesn't do anything. You can get Armagnac significantly cheaper than this which absolutely trounces it (e.g. Tariquet XO, available in Waitrose).
Shows just how overpriced single malt is becoming! This is super smooth, very little hint of the alcohol! Typical Spanish brandy with good body and that lovely sweetness, good taste and medium finish. Recommended!
