Sullivans Cove in Tasmania has a track record of spectacular whiskies, and is set to go the same route with its brandies. Here, That Boutique-y Whisky Brandy Company has bottled this tremendous single cask expression, made from pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot grapes. It's been matured for nine years in an American oak cask that once held Australian tawny (a fortified wine similar to Port). This release joins the Return to Oz range, and features distillery manager Heather Tillot on the label, along with some suspicious Australian wildlife.
Batch 1 is a release of 246 bottles.
An incredibly rich, dense nose. Loads of aged brandy notes, spicy oak, wet earth, baking spices, and maple syrup. Lots of dried fruit, too. Spices, clove, liquorice, and a hint of black cherry pipe tobacco.
Sharp spices, rich and sweet oak, toffee, and dark chocolate, light wood smoke char, and a really nice rancio.
Deep and long lasting.
From the little distillery in Tasmania that brought you the world’s best single malt whisky comes an offering of brandy. I’m a huge fan of cognac and brandy from all over the world. I’m a huge fan of their whisky and not its bloated price, I can say this brandy is boring not special and not worth the price (old habits die hard I see). The award was for whisky not brandy, the price should reflect this. Buy a Spanish brandy or a cognac you can thank me later.
