St Rémy Grand Blend
This fascinating French brandy from St Rémy shines a light on the art of blending with a generous amount of transparency about its composition provided by master blender Cécile Roudaut. The blend combines a selection of mono-grape, bi-grape-and multi-grape eaux-de-vie and the label gives us a breakdown of the main grape varietals and vineyards, as well as the type of distillation (pot, column, and coffey still). The blend includes Chenin eaux-de-vie from the Loire Valley, ugni blanc, colombard, and baco blanc from Gascogne, alongside multi-grape combinations from a mixture of French vineyards. Around 25% of the final spirit is pot-distilled and it's bottled without chill filtration, at a satisfying 43% ABV, resulting in a lively, complex profile and a mouth-coating texture, brimming with notes of prunes, rich old oak, leather, and tobacco.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Prunes and rich old oak open the way for more candied fruits, dried apples, dates, and walnuts. Earthy notes of cocoa and coffee join in time, with spiced honey, and rancio notes of tobacco and old leather nestling in the depths.
