The marvellous Rob Roy from The Handmade Cocktail Company features Sherry-matured Speyside single malt, top quality vermouth and a blend of bitters so secret that if we told you what they were, we would have to... Ask you not to tell anyone else. Please.
The concept of the ‘Vintage Cocktail’ range is simple – you get all the ingredients for a superb cocktail pre-mixed, all you have to do is pour it over ice, stir, then strain off into your glass and garnish (in this instance with a Maraschino Cherry of course). Each bottle carries a stamp showing its year of manufacture.
Top cocktail bars have served their own versions of Vintage Rob Roys and Manhattans for many years (going as far as to offer cocktails bottled in many different years) – you can now enjoy one in the comfort of your own home!
Notes of nutty Amontillado sherry and black olives. Beautiful notes of unctuous barley malt, prune pepper and caramel.
Rich, malty palate with plenty of oak grip. Juicy, fruity and slightly tannic. After a time, the vermouth becomes more prominent, and begins to offer up aromatic wood notes, as well as hint of potpourri and citrus.
Long, fruity finish with notes of barley wine on the tail.
This does well to allow the whisky to lead with added nuance from the intensity of the bitters and the herbal richness of the vermouth.
