    The Vesper Cocktail (70cl)

The Handmade Cocktail Company's Vesper was made to put an end to catching Britain's favourite secret agent sipping on a lager-beer. While we wait to see what adventures the dapper chap will get involved in next, why not treat yourself to his favourite cocktail from the safety of your own home, far away from hat-throwing henchmen and the like.

The concept of the ‘Vintage Cocktail’ range is simple – you get all the ingredients for a superb cocktail pre-mixed, all you have to do is pour it over ice, stir (Don't shake - that would be madness - just don't tell him we said that), then strain off into your glass and garnish (in this instance with a twist of lemon). Each bottle carries a stamp showing its year of manufacture.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Dry, juniper-led nose with tangy light citrus and hints of geraniums, cream soda, cereal, sage and a little grating of nutmeg.

    Palate

Tangy, tart palate with an abundance of crisp, zinging lemon zest top notes. Becomes rather floral with more of those geranium notes, alongside hints of rose petals. Pleasingly perfumed and quite oily with a tangy, olive-like note.

    Finish

Long, herbal cream soda finish with a hint of almond on the tail.

    Overall

    Fresh, fragrant and delightfully herbal.

    Easy over ice

My wife is a lover of this take on the Vesper,we like it in a martini glass over ice with 2.5mi of cranberry juice just to colour and de-sweeten

Although the Vesper originally calls for Kina Lillet, this product is no longer available as it has pretty much changed its name to Lillet Blanc. As a substitute, I have heard of people using Martini Bianco, as both are vermouths.

    Curious?

I'm a 007 enthusiast and an avid Vesper drinker. Though I have not had this yet, I'm curious to try, but also hesitant. You see, the Vesper Bond drinks does not call for vermouth. I've spent years perfecting my at home Vesper. I'm pleased that quinine is mentioned though (I've had to use a dash of bitters for this). Of course I don't have Kina Lillet to use as Bond does, but I use Lillet Blanc which is a close substitute. I guess I'll just have to buy this and try, only way to find out.
