Made with small batch bourbon, top quality sweet vermouth and a secret blend of bitters, this is a wonderfully straightforward way to enjoy the brilliant cocktail at home. Simply pour a large measure over ice, stir, strain and serve with the appropriate garnish - a Maraschino Cherry, of course.
Top cocktail bars have served their own versions of Vintage Manhattans and Rob Roys for many years (going as far as to offer cocktails bottled in many different years) – you can now enjoy one in the comfort of your own home!
Musty, intense, wine-like nose with notes of cigar boxes and rich pipe tobacco. Hints of Sherry, candied peels and allspice develop in the glass.
Curiously herbal, oily palate with delightful waves of rosemary, stewed fruit and vanilla. Toasted spices and cracked black pepper, with a hint of olive oil. Citrus appears late palate.
Long, oily, herbal finish with notes of orange and hints of dessert wine. A little cedar on the tail.
A massively complex and pleasingly aromatic Manhattan made with a perfect blend of vermouths.
This did not work for me at all. Tasted like medicine, and there was more alcohol burn than some cask strength whiskies I've had.
The key thing here though is (as with the Negroni from the same people) the way that the drink feels more 'knitted', and more 'melded' than ever before. Every bit worth getting hold of a bottle.
I've been a big fan of the Manhattan for many years now but finding a place that knows what one is let alone makes one in the back and beyond in North Wales is pretty impossible! Now I've seen pre made cocktails etc on the shelves in supermarkets and tried the odd one and never been impressed so I was dubious about this, however being on this site that I know only generally stocks good quality made me take the risk and boy am I glad I did! Too make a good Manhattan you require about £100 worth of ingredients primarily a good American rye whiskey but the quality of the vermouth makes a difference too plus then if you fancy a quick drink after a day in work making one isn't particularly simple either. So for under £40 and as simple as pouring into a shaker with some ice then straining out you can't get much better than this. However it's the taste that does it for me, Iit tastes exactly like a "perfect Manhatten" should. My only regret is that I should have bought the bigger bottle because the one I have is now only a third full!
