Aske Stephenson
One of three pre-bottled cocktails released in early 2015 by Aske Stephenson (the brainchild of Thomas Aske and Tristan Stephenson, whom you likely know from Fluid Movement), the Leather & Walnut 1852 is a down-right delectable delight. They take top-quality rye and infuse it with warm Brazilian walnuts and Italian leather, resulting in a rich flavour profile. Serve straight from the fridge with a spritz of absinthe (yep, there's even a handy little spray bottle of absinthe included!) for an excellent twist on a classic American cocktail that you likely know the name of...
Smoothed out rye, presumably from the infusion. This creates something that's also slightly reminiscent of the Cognac version of the classic cocktail this drink is based on. Aromatic anise is the perfect accompaniment.
Venerable toffee, black liquorice and dried apricot and additional integrated walnut richness, if not overt flavour.
Drying, sweet leather and another little lick of sweet anise and rye.
Grown up and classic, belying the complexity of its production. A lovingly developed cocktail.
