If I told you that these images represented the ingredients of a brand new concoction we’re currently putting together, would you think:

a)    We’ve employed a Wizard.
b)    We’ve finally lost it, and are on the slippery slope towards wandering around Norwich shopping precinct with slippers on our feet and a Cornish pasty in our hand shouting “get away, it’s a bomb”…
c)    There’s some kind of superb boozy concoction lined up for release in the future which we’re going to ask you chaps to guess about?

If you guessed ‘c’, then well done. Well done indeed.

So – based on these ingredients – what on earth could we be making?

First person to guess the correct answer by adding a comment below, and identify enough of the ingredients to make me impressed (this is an arbitrary number, I’ll be honest) wins the very first bottle off the production line, duly signed by its creators.

Ben.

Huzzah! Yes – I can announce exclusively that what you’re looking at is the beginning of the production process of our brand new Christmas Baby: Master of Malt’s Christmas Bitters – with Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. I think it’s probably only fair that all those who’ve come ‘close enough’ get a free bottle when they’re released, so InWithBacchus, G-Lo, Peer Locher, Fearghal and James Williams will all be notified when they come out, and will get a free of charge, signed bottle 🙂 I’ll pop a proper post up about it in the next few days. Expect stories from years gone by, tinsel, fairy lights, a guest appearance from Brian Blessed, an explanation of "why on earth we’ve put all that gubbins in there", and insight from yours truly and ‘that handsome bloke off of http://www.caskstrength.net and whisky magazine’ Neil Ridley on how the concept was born.

Yo Ben! This is killing me! Working on a Master of Malt digestivo that resembles Fernet-Branca? I need to know! 😉 Cheers! G-LO

Christmas drink of some sorts. Could be a mulled wine, but I’ll guess Christmas bitters aperitif.

Row 2: dried lemon peel, dried cranberries, dates, raisins, candized orange peel Row 3: Cocoa powder, licorice, cinnamon, ???, cardamom. Row 4: Clove, vanilla, white raisins, pecans, walnuts, almonds, brazilian nuts, black tea Row 5: Dried figs, Pedro Ximenez sherry, ground ginger, Pine needle essence, Star of Bethlehem essence. for gin usually sloe and/or juniper berries are used, my guess is some sort of essence for mulled wine, where i come from (denmark) its called gløgg KR Peer

D’you know what, you’re all so nearly there it’s painful… Okay, if I tell you that the full list of ingredients (left to right, then top to bottom are): 1 Clementine peel 2 Nutmeg 3 Star Anise 4 Allspice 5 Cranberries 6 Dried Orange Peel 7 Cherries 8 Dates 9 Raisins 10 Mixed Peel 11 Cocoa 12 Liquorice 13 Cinnamon 14 Gentian (this one on its own should be a giveaway) 15 Cardamom 16 Cloves 17 Vanilla 18 Frankincense 19 Mixed Nuts 20 Lapsang Souchong Tea 21 Roasted Chestnuts (combine this with the last one’s smokiness) 22 Pedro Ximenez 23 23-Carat Gold Dust 24 Pine extract 25 Star of Bethlehem Extract That should set you on the right course… Concentrate on ingredients 23, 18, and 14, and I reckon you’ll get it in a second. There’s also one more ingredient to come (not pictured, as we’re using the tiniest pinch of it due to its overwhelming potency – InWithBacchus has actually got this ingredient in his list)…
