Smokiverse has landed – Ardbeg like never before

As Ardbeg celebrates 25 years of its legendary Committee in 2025, it boldly goes where no Islay malt has gone before.

Introducing the Smokiverse. To create this year’s edition, Ardbeg explored high gravity mashing in a first for the distillery. A distillery never shy of exploring the extremes of peat, Ardbeg has created something distinctive, daring, and defiantly smoky for this Committee Release.

Launching just in time for Ardbeg Day 2025, we’re delighted to say that we will be stocking Smokiverse. That’s because we’re an official embassy of Ardbeg Distillery (a fancy term which means we can sell Committee Releases). Come back on Wednesday to join the launch.

Ardbeg Smokiverse – IT’S HERE!!!

We have liftoff. Smokiverse has arrived.

Created to celebrate 25 years of the Ardbeg Committee, this interstellar whisky is powered by the immense gravitational pull of Ardbeg’s mash tun. It’s bold, it’s smoky, it’s unlike anything else.

The process entails dialling down the water and ramping up the grain in the mash, which magnifies fruity acetate esters during fermentation and creates a fruitier, sweeter, and astonishingly intense single malt. Smokiverse was then matured in classic bourbon casks to let the amplified spirit shine.

Tasting Notes

Nose

An explosion of fruity, estery notes, reminiscent of smoked bubblegum, fused with whiffs of ripening barley and baked sourdough bread. A splash of water reveals dense, sweet, and aromatic peat smoke, accompanied by gently smoked tropical fruits.

Palate

A rich, creamy mouthfeel drifts into sharp, sooty and spicy notes of creosote, aniseed, and clove. Tempered by the distinct sweetness of muscovado sugar, robust woody notes orbit rich charcoal.

Finish

Finally, in an almost infinite finish, earthly peat moss fuses with sizzling bonfire embers.

The 6th batch of Ardbeg's popular Traigh Bhan whisky, aged for 19 years in a combo of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46.2% ABV as usual. Traigh Bhan is a beach on Islay known locally as the Singing Sands and Ardbeg says it takes inspiration from the white soft sands juxtaposed against the jagged, volcanic rocks which pierce the sand along the shore.
