Gammel Opland aquavit spends two years ageing in oak barrels before it's bottled, which imparts a sweet, creamy vanilla touch to the overall flavour profile, which is rich with caraway. The recipe is based upon one used by Oplandske Spritfabrik, which was founded in 1872.
Bags of flavour and gorgeous with tonic as a long summer drink.
I don't know enough about akvavit to say anything intelligent about this one in particular, but 1) it tastes nice, and 2) even if it didn't (though it definitely does), it would almost be worth buying for the bottle/label alone. I mean, will you just look at that design? If you didn't want to drink it, you could just put it on a shelf and look at it, and it would be worth the money.
This is the rolls royce of aquavit, absolute delicious. Drink with pork belly or other "fat/heavy" food w lager beer - 20 years ago everyone had in the freezer beforehand, then last 10 years in the fridge, now its room temperature. Skaal
