This is a beautifully dark Kiwi whisky produced at the Willowbank distillery on the South Island. It is aged for around six years in American oak bourbon barrels and then transferred into French oak red wine barrels for up to seven years...
Butterscotch and red berry fruits. Hints of acacia honey and creamy vanilla. A little allspice.
Creamy, sweet palate entry with walnut and cranberries. Toasted oak, hints of over-ripe grape and black pepper.
Medium finish. Warming malt notes and hints of toffee apple.
Flavour and mouthfeel profile of an XO cognac. Nuff said, unbelievable!
There's a lot of hype, but not a whole lot of follow through. Tastes like a ripoff Crown Royal with plastic top notes and burnt rubber. Don't buy it because it's 'dark' and rich looking, it's really average whisky.
Ive fallen in love. From the first mouthful a beautiful smooth whisky that gives a hint of warmth and honey. Well done Kiwis
the gentleman here from Francais, sums up this whisky superbly- this is a very thorough review of an OUTSTANDING whisky www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3fL224ALrs
This is one of the biggest and richest whiskies i've tasted in 2013- refreshingly different in its complexity. Lots of burnt-toffee, berries, treacle and a really sweet, almost rosewater finish. Looking forward to tasting more of these New Zealand whiskies!
