The Hive is a delicious 12 year old blended malt whisky from Wemyss Malts, with a strong emphasis on honeyed, malty Speyside Scotch. Very tasty, this was awarded 93 points by Jim Murray in his 2012 Whisky Bible.
Honeyed and malty, notes of sweet, creamy vanilla, dates, fudge, cooked apples, beeswax and a tinge of soft smoke.
Creamy and supple, a lot of honey, dried apricot, manuka honey too in fact, granary toast, melted butter, toffee and sweet cinnamon.
Beeswax and honey on hot buttered toast. Allspice and nutmeg on the tail.
I've been looking at blended scotch after the increasing trickiness in trying to get hold of our favourite Hibiki Master Select and also for their relatively lower cost. This is a surprising and very delicious option. The nose is a little off-putting as it's quite heavily sherried and sulphurous, but the palate is very different, sweet and creamy and, unsurprisingly honeyed. I expect to have a bottle of this on my shelf for some time. A beautiful blend.
Rather a harsh aftertaste. Not among the best whiskys.
Absolutely gorgeous. Best ever. One glass not enough.
A nice bottle for the price. Very very smooth and a great flavor. Bought it on a whim and was stunned by the profile. Beautiful golden color and if you like honey, then you owe this bottle a visit.
