    Single Malt

    Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 84

It's Aberlour's ever-popular A'Bunadh single malt Scotch whisky! Each batch of this single malt is matured entirely in Spanish oloroso sherry butts, bestowing huge helpings of dried fruit and festive spice notes to the whisky, after which it's bottled up at full-on cask strength with no chill-filtration.

    Very different for A'bunadh

This is the first of ten batches (all time favorite 50) that I wouldn't gift to anyone. It's wholly different from all the batches I own, not the sherry-wood-forward I expect. Spicy, (another review said spearmint), I would add astringent and sharp. While I have enjoyed my other A'bunadh neat without water, a few drops improves this one immensely.

This is nothing more than Christmas in a bottle or as I tell my friends liquid Christmas cake!!! A stoater of a Malt

    Delicious

Absolutely right up there after Aultmore. I don’t want to finish my bottle !

Not as good as the batches of old

A fine dram, for sure. It is about a decade since I last bought this offering, and this seems somewhat lighter than previous. Some dried fruit, but not the concentrated Christmas pudding in a bottle that I am familiar with. Very good, just not outstanding.

    Lighter and Fiery

Compared to some recent releases, the colour is marginally lighter and the aroma and palate deliver more heat and astringency. Its fiery, Armagnac-like personality reveals flavours of walnut slice, dried fruits and dark chocolate alongside richer vanillas, suggesting a good measure of American oak. Water softens the blow, fluffing up the texture, allowing you to experiment with a wide ratio of dilution to find your preferred sweet spot.
