Whisky or Whiskey
What's in a name? Lagavulin 12 Year Old (2012 Release) whisky is called whisky because it's produced in Scotland. Were it from America it would be spelled Lagavulin 12 Year Old (2012 Release) whiskey, rather than whisky.
Lagavulin 12 2012
This is the astounding 11th release of one of our favourite cask-strength whiskies - Lagavulin 12 year old. This 2012 edition is a smoky, zesty whisky with masses of character.
Nose: Spent matches and wood smoke. A big dose of sea spray with hints of malt wine. Lemon zest, lip balm and lemonade. Fresh apple peel and salted butter.
Palate: A medium body with huge peat smoke notes. Dried grass, cocoa and coal tar. Candied lemons, pine oil and manuka honey. Barnyard notes.
Finish: Long, smoky finish with notes of treacle and Black Forest honey.
A Special Lagavulin
Quality, quality. This is a robust cask-strength that does not disappoint. Huge peat and smoke finish, a steady delivery to the taste and matured. A long, finish which is complex with bitter spices and pine.
This is a bottle you take your time with.

My prize to come
We lined 'em up: The Balvenie15, Laphroaig Quarter Cask, Laphroaig10, Laphroaig18, Lagavulin Pedro Ximenez1995, Lagavulin16, Lagavulin12 Special Edition (2012 release) - 8 bottles of the best drinks we had. We were careful to take just a sip of each with enough time in-between to allow the previous dram to finish completely. We all WANTED to know what we each thought was the best. What better way than to try them all side-by-side! The order I listed the scotch is the end result for the majority of people there. The Lagavulin12 SE is absolutely above the 16 (always my favorite) as this Special Edition scotch simply demands more respect. This bottle will last me a long, long time as I don't feel qualified to drink it without a Special Occasion. ;-)
