It's the 2009 vintage of Glenkinchie's superb Distillers Edition! This expression is treated to a finished in ex-amontillado sherry casks, and the characteristic nuttiness that they impart works an absolute treat alongside the classic fragrant florals and softly herbaceous layers within this luscious Lowlander.
Creamy praline, floral honey, and buttered sourdough, with whispers of distant herbs.
Candied pecans, roasted almonds, and grassy barley are followed by zesty notes of orange-infused brandy butter.
Nutty granola and baked walnuts arrive, while fresh peach, toasted marzipan, and sweet oak linger.

It has been a while since I had a bottle of Glenkinchie so I thought it was about time to reacquaint myself with this Lowlander. It's very pleasant and extremely easy to drink - perhaps, perilously so - I'm more used to drinking whiskies at at least 46% or cask strength so this seemed very light and didn't take much water. I found the finish to be not as your tasting notes described but drying and spicy, which I liked. I must say that, overall, I enjoyed the change from my usual Campbeltown, robust Highlanders or Islay whiskies.
