Glenfarclas 1961 Family Cask Release IX
This Glenfarclas boasts an incredible fifty plus years of cask ageing and should be considered a real whisky treasure. Glenfarclas is one of a very limited number of family-run distilleries left in Scotland, so to try some of the stock produced by the current owner's great grand father is something quite special.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Waves of spice lapping at a shoreline of rich maple syrup. The aroma still maintains a fresh quality, a more than admirable feat for a whisky of this age.
Palate
Deep notes of caramel, dark chocolate and allspice that play around the palate with an amazing vibrancy.
Finish
The finish carries on the party from the palate, it warms from the tip of the tongue all the way down.
Overall
A whisky rocking more than half a century of ageing simply shouldn't be this vibrant but fantastically it is. Plus it has all the deep and complex flavours you could want from such a whisky - truly remarkable.
