Dalwhinnie
Scotland
Single Malt
The 1995 vintage of Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition, finished in first fill Oloroso sherry casks before bottling. The result is very rich, thick and fruity.
Fruity and quite gentle, with pear juice, cocoa, espresso, thick malt and a little hoppy bitterness.
Tangy and fruity, apple, honeydew melon, dates and walnuts in syrup, a good mix of spices too.
Good length with cereal sweetness and chocolate milk.
Refined delightful aroma. The taste smooth satisfying without being overly complicated. I like it. I am tasting Dalwhinnie beside the 12 year old Balvenie triple cask. I find the Balvenie a bit sharper on my nose but to give it credit it has a lovely long finish. I think I will give the toss to Dalwhinnie, thanks to the makers of both keep up the good work.
I was really excited to try this after reading many reviews, however I must admit that I'm somewhat disappointed in this scotch. the 15 yr is awesome, maybe I expected the DE to deliver more complex flavours but for its price here ($135) I would rather buy a different scotch. maybe I got a bad batch, but all I smell and taste is alcohol and sour wine. it tastes like bad wine almost with a vinegar after taste...
Nose: Vaporous. Like the Dalwhinne 15, the alcohol is a bit too overpowering. It makes you reach for the water. With water, fresh fruits and sweet malty vanilla reveals itself, accompanied with a hint of dried fruits and orange. Taste: Alcohol. Grass and unripe apple attacks the tip of the tongue. Sweet, grassy finish with a tiny hint of smoke. It doesn’t quite hit home with me.
Really good dram a lot better than standard dalwhinnie
Went to a scotch tasting last night and I thought this was the hit of the show... Up against Abelour 18, Laphroig 18 (too smoky for me) and Glenrothes 18. I thought it was smoother and had a longer finish. But all were very good...
