Nose: A waft of coastal peat smoke followed by stewing dried fruits, notably raisins, dates and currants. The there is a rich hint of Christmas cake chased with a little more smoke.
Palate: The saline coastal quality returns hand-in-hand with Java coffee beans and parma ham.
Finish: The finish is extraordinarily long with notes of fleshy stone fruit and smoked coffee beans.
Overall: An outstanding whisky, the high ageing of this Caol Ila has resulted in a wonderfully complex whisky perfect for contemplating late into the night.
