Following the Balblair 1965, the distillery has dug deep into their stocks and uncovered some single malt Scotch whisky which was distilled in 1969! It was bottled in 2012 after spending 43 years in ex-bourbon remade hogsheads. 999 bottles of this extraordinary whisky were produced.
Smoke and spice waft up, with apples, pear drops and a subtle mint note.
Complex and rewarding, it begins with the fruit sweetness of oranges, apples and bananas. This is followed by oak spices, warming up the palate for the smoky vanilla that comes afterwards.
The finish lasts and lasts. The apple notes continue to linger.
The 1969 vintage Balblair is simply incredible. It's the type of dram you spend hours thinking about afterwards.
It’s extremely similar to the 75 in the way that it’s a mouthful of smooth apples. This whiskey has a near infinite finish that you can chew for minutes after each sip. Two drops of water help open it up, I’m curious of how well this will oxidize after a year on my shelf open. If it’s anything like every other Balblair ive had it will just continue to get better. 93/100 Loses a small amount of points on taste that is made up for by the flawless nose and finish.
