Single Malt
Scotland
A half bottle of 10 year old single malt from the Eastern Highland distillery, Balblair, in Edderton. This was bottled by Gordon and MacPhail. Balblair is known for its whiskies which belie their years - such is the complexity. This is a great example.
The nose is quite clean. Malty cereal notes at the fore, sweet barley with toffee notes and a little vanilla. The palate is quite light, there is a delicious toffee sweetness and with it a smooth oiliness. There is a fruity oak, showing raisins and soft, honeyed sponge with sugared barley and cooked berries. The finish is light and supple, with a reassuring dryness. Buttery notes and more sponge cake petering out, enchantingly.
