This London dry gin is named after the famous crossroads in the St Giles parish of London.
Seven Dials sits between St Giles and Soho. The area was urbanised in the late 1600s where seven streets were laid out to meet a central pillar thereby forming a seven pointed star. During the 1700s the area became home to dozens of gin shops.
This gin is like taking a smooth sip of eighteenth century London, it is big and ballsy; and ripe with juniper, pungent herbs and citrus zest. This is true Dickensian fare!
The Seven Dials is a small batch cold-distilled gin created by the London Gin Club using the seven botanical flavours of juniper, coriander, angelica, marshmallow root, clementine peel, cardamom and almond. The implementation of cold-distillation through a rotary evaporation still prevents the botanicals from becoming ‘cooked’ and helps retain freshness and vitality.
Juniper infused double cream, leading to herbaceous touches of coriander and lavender before zesty aromatics take sway.
Angelica and cardamom spice open the palate followed by a typhoon of fresh juniper, before dense earthy root notes emerge.
The finish is gentle with fresh coriander and bay leaf, making way to almond and tangy clementine zest.
This gin is a flavour bomb of a drink, the juniper asserts itself well but complex herb flavours make this a very interesting gin, furthermore it has a zesty quality that keeps it from becoming tired and flabby. Great in a Martini and would hold up excellently with tonic water.
When I tasted this gin, my first thought was "now this is a proper London Dry". I bought two bottles to bring back to the States. Gifted one to a friend. Now I wish I hadn't because I'm running out! Next trip to London, I'll be buying more.
My wife and I were in London and stumbled into the London Gin Club looking for a gift for a friend. We've never been gin drinkers but when we tried 7 Dials we looked at each other and decided we just like great gin. I guess we'll have to go back to London regularly to stock up!
A fantastic gin. Really excellent. If you like proper ginny gin, this is the one. Top notch
Easily my favourite ever gin - and I have tried most of them! - so smooth, so citrusy, so refreshing.
I popped this one into a tasting set (nifty!) without too much thought, but it's become one of my favourite gins and a couple of bottles are on order. And no need to go to London. Result.
