The Botanist Bottling Note

Created at the Bruichladdich distillery, this superb Islay gin was distilled in the 'ugly betty' still described as "an oversized upside-down dustbin made of copper" by Tom Morton. Perhaps the best looking packaging we've ever seen for a gin - it's not all style and no substance either. This is a world-class gin, at a proper abv. A huge 31 botanicals go into The Botanist, including 22 native to Islay (the Juniper used is wild Islay Juniper). The full list of botanicals is as follows: angelica root, apple mint, birch leaves, bog myrtle leaves, cassia bark, chamomile, cinnamon bark, coriander seed, creeping thistle flowers, elder flowers, gorse flowers, heather flowers, hawthorn flowers, juniper berries, lardy's bedstraw flowers, lemon balm, lemon peel, liquorice root, meadow sweet, orange peel, oris root, peppermint leaves, mugwort leaves, red clover flowers, tansy, thyme leaves, water mint leaves, white clover, wood sage leaves. Phew!

User Reviews of the Botanist Islay Gin

Complex GIN???

Complexity of a single malt but a gin, very floral on entry and very dry on palate. Makes an awesome Tom Collins and Bramble cocktail not so much Martini. Use it for what its good at and it is the best. Just Great stuff.

Vestan Pants

Sampled this alongside a bottle of Bombay Sapphire and I confess, to my uneducated palate the two were indistinguishable. Lovely stuff of course, but fellow philistines can save themselves a few quid by opting for the latter.

best gin ever tasted

Sampled this at Glasgow Whisky festival 2011. There is nothing to touch this on taste. Best gin around. Drink neat to fully appreciate the full exotic notes. Worth every penny.

brilliant

This went down a hit in our house at new year, would recommend it to any other gin

very good

Best gin I've ever had

I compared it to a run of the mill gin, both with and without tonic, and The Botanist blew it out of the water. I didn't realize a gin could be that complex and that the flavor would break through and complement the bitter sweetness of the tonic is such an excellent way.. Highly recommended!

Drink it.

If anyone asks what the best drinks in my home bar are, it's actually easy to tell, because I just point to the emptiest bottles. I suppose it is really a matter of personal choice, but as a neat gin, and as a base for gin and tonic this is my absolute favourite, and it's actually one of my top five favourite drinks, full stop! It could just be a flavour profile thing, but for me, this would be kinda similar to millers westbourne and bombay saphire, but much more sophisticated than either, if that makes sense. Its totally different to both hendricks or tanquaray ten, both of which I enjoy, but neither of which is on its third bottle! :-)

70th Birthday Present

I thought I knew the best gins and was pleasantly surprised when I received The Botanist, Iknew about the peaty malts from Islay but not the Gin, now I am hooked. The best gin I have ever tasted

botanist gin

This is the most fantastic tasting gin i have ever tasted and i will not buy any other as long as i can get it !!!!!!

WHAT!!?

I'm very surprised to see all these five star... this gin doesn't work practically in any cocktail. The taste is enough afar by the ordinary gin (rather bitter) and at nose is inexistent. With all the respect for Bruichladdich, this gin is a interesting product but is VERY peculiar; the taste is unpleasant... highly NOT recommended (there's much better around...).

Re- WHAT!!

You heathen, how can you say that, the taste is not unpleasant, but by far the best Gin ever made !!. Next you will be saying Petrol is nice. Idiot
