Japanese Single Malt Whisky

The Japanese have received great acclaim recently for their ever expanding range of single malt whiskies. These are produced just like any single malt whisky, distilled from nothing other than yeast, water and malted barley at a single distillery before a maturation of at least three years and a day in oak casks. There are two main brands that own Japanese distilleries: Nikka and Suntory, founded by Masataka Taketsuru and Shinjiro Torii respectively.

Hanyu 1991 Cask 370
(70cl, 57.30%)
A single cask from the Hanyu distillery in South Japan. Distilled in 1991, matured in a hogshead and finished in Japanese oak before bottling 2009. An outturn of 361 bottles.  More info
A very well aged dram! This 32 year old was distilled at Karuizawa in 1976 and matured in a sherry butt, single cask number 6719. Noh is a form of Japanese theatre, the label features a Noh performer.  More info

Yamazaki Sherry Cask

A wonderfully full bodied malt from Yamazaki. This was aged in first fill Oloroso sherry butts for around 12 to 15 years. A limited release of 16,000 bottles.  More info
Miyagikyo 1988
(70cl, 50%)
A blend of four different styles of Miyagikyo whisky (with varying levels of peat). This was matured in a recharred casks and a sherry butt, will sell out very fast!  More info
A single cask from Yoichi. This was distilled on the 7th February 1991, and matured for 18 years in cask number 129374 before bottling at cask strength on the 10th July 2009.  More info
