The Argentinian winemakers, Trapiche, produce a series of single vineyard Malbecs to display the best of the dark, delicious Malbec they have to offer and to communicate the effect that the different terroir can have on the grape and, consequently, the wine.
This 2009 vintage comes from La Consulta vineyard in San Carlos, Mendoza. The grapes here hand harvested and after fermentation, the wine was allowed to rest for 18 months in French oak barrels.
Nose: Ripe berries and dark cherries. A hint of chocolate and wood from the cask it rested in.
Palate: Rich coffee, milk chocolate and decadent truffles, contained within a fresh swirl of plum and blueberries.
Finish: Spicy on the long finish with hints of pepper.
Overall: Very fruity, but not ridiculously sweet. It's rich, but also rather vibrant. It really does seem to cover all the bases.
