Classy oaked Chardonnay from Shaw + Smith in Adelaide Hills, South Australia. Unfortunately oaked Chardonnay from Australia still has something of an image problem with some people. Due to liberal use of oak chips, or even oak dust in some cases, some of the wines coming out of Australia some years ago now were really quite terrible. When done properly and with care however, such as this fine example, they can rival some of the great white wines of Burgundy.
Soft and delicate with aromas of white peach and citrus, with some floral elements too. There is also oak influence here, adding a slight nuttiness and toasty note, but is perfectly balanced and complements rather than dominates.
