Niepoort Drink Me 2016 Bottling Note

The 2016 vintage from Niepoort's Drink Me range retains the easy-to-drink and consumer-friendly motif of the series with its Steven Appleby (Cartoonist for The Guardian and Sunday Telegraph) storyboard label and classy flavour profile.

This edition was crafted using Bical, Códega do Larinho, Dona Branca, Gouveio, Rabigato, Viosinho and other grapes sourced from vines planted on the bank of the Douro River at an altitude of 550 to 700m. Once harvested, these grapes were transported at night under temperature-controlled conditions to the cellar, before being sorted and gently pressed at low temperatures to avoid oxidation and too much extraction.

After settling naturally for approximately 24 hours, 70% of the must fermented in stainless steel tanks for 8 months, while the remainder was housed in used French barriques. The wine then fermented with indigenous yeasts before it was bottled.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Succulent red fruits, touches of espresso and a good core of mineral hints provide enough room for prickles of spice to develop.
