We don't know about you, but we think Rhone blends might be the best wines to come out of South Africa. Just us? Surely some of you out there must agree? Well, buy one of these and give it a go. A superb blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre, sourced from vineyards in Swartland and Hemel-en Aarde, and made by the chaps at Crystallum, one of the most dynamic of South Africa's "new" producers.
Lovely floral character initially, with crushed violets and rose blossom, giving way to a firm, fruity palate laden with cassis, bramble fruit and ripe red strawberries. Silky, fine grained tannins and fresh acidity make this the perfect partner to a dish of grilled or roasted meats and vegetables.
