Aussie red made using Shiraz/Grenache/Mataro grapes in the style of Chateauneuf du Pape, which is also where the name comes from (although we do enjoy the idea of nine Popes hanging out together, just chatting to each other about what engine they've got in their Popemobile). It was matured in 80% French oak and 20% American oak casks. The 2010 vintage is considered a highlight of the series.
Nose: A rich, herbal nose with hints of aromatic dark berries.
Palate: It is here that the berries come into their own, vibrant and sweet. Superbly rich, fine tannins.
Finish: Very elegant.
Overall: Gorgeous stuff, very reminiscent of the aforementioned Chateauneuf du Pape but unique in its own right.
