Woodford Batch Proof 2018 Bottling Note

Part of Woodford Reserve's Master's Collection range, this Batch Proof bottling shows off the same mashbill as the classic Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon, but presented at a very generous 62.9% ABV. Powerfully flavoursome stuff, this.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fragrant coconut and almond, shortly joined by roasted oak and molasses.

Palate: Heavy caramel, peppermint leaf, new leather, slightly buttery, hints of rye heat.

Finish: Chocolatey oak and a hint of damson jam.

Woodford Reserve Batch Proof (2018 Edition) Reviews

Smokey barbecue whiskey?

Nothing in any review or description of this stuff seems to remark on smokiness. Well sir, it's present and clearly so, but in a nice kind of way even if smokey bourbon isn't so much your thing. It's a barbecue type smokiness, surprisingly pleasant. The taste beyond that is full, but can't say I find any hint of the alleged coconut or otherwise. Now the tricky part - the price - well, the stuff just doesn't justify it. MoM has any number of smokey Japanese mixes and other alternatives half or two thirds the price of this fellow that'll work just fine for most folks. The purchase limit of 3 per customer? What is that, a marketing gimmick? Even a big fan shouldn't need more than 1-2 of these at Woodford's price. I like it, but I won't justify the cost of keeping a back-up on hand.
