Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is quite light and fruity. There are notes of nut oils and mixed peels, hints of honey and a little oaken note. The palate is of medium-body and quite well-balanced. There are notes of sherried peels and sultanas, winter fruitcake with spice and developing oak. The finish is nutty and long with dried fruit notes.

User Reviews of the Grant’s Cask Editions - Sherry Cask Finish

Harsh - doesn't taste any different from original grants

Harsh smell and taste and doesn't taste any different from original Grants.
I purchased this instead of a better whisky (IMO) based on reviews and wished I hadn't - not a fan.

Fantastic

Very very good whiskey. The taste, nose, and very smooth. Well balanced, prefer it just on the rocks. Sadly becoming scarce in SA.

Surprisingly good

I wouldn't normally buy Grants for anything other than mixers but this is a lovely nip for the money :)

Run of the mill Whisky

Pretty good run of the mill whisky. Quite light and balanced. I prefer teachers because of the added peated malt but that seems to have been removed from Tesco at the moment. Would recommend.

A pretty good scotch for the rest of us

I am someone who can not afford the $100 a bottle scotch, but we do enjoy having a healthy dram at the end of the evening. This is one of our "go to" scotch. It has some good flavors on the nose but what we really liked is the peat / smoke after taste. We are big fans of Johnnie Walker Swing and this really reminded us of a "younger" Swing. This is a great inexpensive scotch for under $20.00 that did not have much burn. Splash some JW Swing and it changes the chemistry completely and makes it a pretty smooth sit out and reflect on the day dram.

Buy when on offer and it's hard to be disappointed with!

**Compulsory "This is not a single malt statement!* I really wanted to try the "Ale Cask" edition which I believe partners this blended whisky with Innes & Gunn scottish ale casks. Unfortunately the shop didn't have it, but did have an offer on this version (Sherry Cask). If you are looking for a Macallan or Balvenie{Doublewood} experience from this, then you're in the wrong demographic. Like many I enjoy a dram or two a day, this does not make me a raging alcoholic, but I do get through a bit too much liquid gold! Considering this: I have been exploring the world of blended malts over the last 12 months. Grants have proved to be a very consistent and reliable distillery, and in the whole deliver many strong contenders in the "competetively priced" category.

Sherry Cask; This is a young whisky but skillfully blended. The nosing is subtle oakish-ness and citrus fruit, with just a hint of spice. Make sure to leave long enough that some of the initial overpowering alcohol can evaporate!
Tasting; Not a great deal going on over the standard "Grants Reserve" release, one or two of the harsh characteristics of "Reserve" have been shaved off. There is a very mild dried-fruit character;think orange/lemon pith {Xmas cake}, but you have to work it around your tongue for that to emerge. Something tells me that this may have only been resting in sherry casks for 6 months (if that!). All in all, I enjoyed this blend. Measure your expectations...and your glass!! 7/10.

Grant's Sherry Cask Finish

The sherry casks must be pretty well used because I get hardly any sherry on this. Ale Cask Finish is light years better than this.

Grant's sherry cask, good value for money

I'm more of a malt man myself, but because I am fond of sherry matured whisky I bought this blend.I have to admid it was very nicely balanced,
with some raisins and a sultana touch.Quite a good value for money.

Well

When I actually got my self a bottle I found it to be horrible, yet when I was given a glass with out knowing what it was I thoroughly enjoyed it. Shows how much preconceptions can influence taste.

Good

For £10, this is amazing. A great everyday dram for those that want something sherried but can't afford to drink Macallan, GlenDronach or any of the others everyday.

Very surprised ...

Having just recently started trying various malts, Balvenie 12 year double wood, Aberlour Malt and the beautiful Knockando 12 year old Malt , this was a real surprise for being a non malt and a sort of just of the shelf whiskey. Very warm and enjoyable neat or with a sprinkle of water. As said in the other review I purchased this on offer at £12.89 for 70cl, which considering the taste is provides is astonishing value. Will for certain purchase this again.

Probably the best measure per pound.

I keep coming back to this one. Its a lowly blend - I can hear all the pure malt drinkers saying.... Much as I like the single malts, this is a superb every day blend that really hits the spot for me. It even seems to come on special offer in many places at seriously cheap prices.

If you've not tried it yet, I think both you and your wallet will quite enjoy it.

Brill for a blend

Nice through th nose light n fruity with a slight blended smell If that makes sence
All the taste of grants which is my favourite blend of whisky though has sweetness because of the sherry
cask with fruity notes, take it through the middle of the mouth for the best flavour.
All in all good whisky for a blend 6/10 not a malt so don't expect perfection!!
