Whyte and Mackay Special Blended Scotch Whisky Reviews

Top class

My favourite by far no doubt will single malt lovers will laugh but taste in the glass tells no lies

Not great

Nothing special about this whisky at all, it’s marginally better than Grants but I can’t say much else positive, a dram neat gives me a headache. I doubt much, if any of the contents is more than 3 years old.

Great go to Scotch

My go to standard Scotch. For me it's streets ahead of Grouse, Bells, Grant's, Teachers or Red Label.

I like it over ice in the evening and in a flask at the Rugby.

Not going to pretend it's a sip and savour Whisky but at the price point, it's pretty damn good.

Highly recommended!

Tried this for the first time and the flavours are just delicious. Better than many other blended whiskies I’ve tried and affordable too!

A lockdown slowdown meltdown just what the doctor ordered

Smooth and nice and full of history

A strange one, not bad but not good

At this price how can you go wrong, it’s either going taste awful or you’re going to be surprised, but with this one it’s neither!

You get that cheap whisky feel, grainy oily feel, yet smooth no harshness! It’s sweet, fruity blended whisky with toffee caramel pudding syrup treacle almost like a honey rum feel? But the grain is there to remind you that this is a whisky. Also to note there is warmth sweet the more you get in to it. Probably use a wide open glass for airing.

Best blended dram

Whyte and Mackay is my go to evening dram. My late father always had it and Dewars in the cupboard.

I like it neat over ice. For me it has more depth than Bells, Teachers, Grouse or Grant's. At the price point, I think it's unbeatable.

NICE IN HORLICKS AS A NIGHTCAP

I DO NOT PRETEND TO BE A WHISKY CONISEUR OR EVEN EDUCATED IN THE SUBJECT BUT I HAVE A GOOD GLUG IN MY HORLICKS EVERY NIGHT AND IT SUITS ME AT £16 PER LITRE ON OFFER AT MORRISONS AND I WOULD AND HAVE DONE WITH A 1971 MILLBURN I BOUGHT 9 YEARS AGO. WONDER HOW MUCH THAT WOULD COST NOW IT WAS £120 IN 2011..

Better than the other budget blends!

I know with whisky it’s each to their own and it’s personal taste but this blend is better than the other big players on the market I think! The maturation and marrying of the grain and malt whiskies in sherry casks is what makes this one stand out! It’s got a lovely sweet sherry note with some fruity tones and malt flavours in there too! I’m useualy a single malt man but because I pay for everything for my family I just can’t afford single malts the moment but for the flavours going on this will more than do me for now!im not sure why the chaps here haven’t left any tasting notes but for those on a budget and especially sherries whisky fans this will fill the gap very well!thank you Whyte and mackay for a blend that I actually like!great little ripple I think!

not my type of whiskey

overall flavor was good, but for some reason cause of its smoothness it doesnt taste pleasant, well in my personal preference i like it when it hits you hard with thesame funk and burn when u drink rum. and i think johnny red tastes better and is more complex than this. yea sure it has those earthy, oaky, and a bit of sweetness in the taste. but because of the smoothness, it kinda ruined the experience of it.
