WhistlePig 13YO #53 Bottling Note

The 2014 edition of WhistlePig's Boss Hog (dubbed 'The Spirit of Mortimer', dedicated to the company mascot who sadly moved on to the piggy afterlife) is a 13 year old, 100% rye whiskey which has been bottled at cask strength. Undoubted awesome stuff.

Please note: The labels on these bottles were unfortunately slightly scuffed when they were making their way to MoM Towers from Vermont. However, the tasty rye within the bottle remains unscathed, because you can't scuff a liquid.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Dark honey, liquorice, plum wine, green olive and fragrant rye spice. A little water helps unlock the complexity.

Palate: Big and impressive with honeyed tobacco notes veering into the more intense end of the 'fragrant and floral' repertoire. Toffee, oak, some vanilla and vermouth-like flat cola notes with a Kräuterlikör edge.

Finish: Lingering rye spice with slightly bitter treacle.

Overall: Well aged rye isn't easy to come by, harder still with a mashbill of 100% rye. Uncompromising and great fun.
