This 19 year old, single cask Laphroaig was distilled on the 22nd October 1990 and aged in bourbon barrel number 89 before bottling on the 21st June 2010. A release of 246 decanters.
Nose: Iodine, kelp and sea spray. Sticking plasters, Deep Heat, hints of toffee sweetness, fishmonger notes, oily and tangy with hints of citrus. Very interesting indeed!
Palate: Salinity and medicinal character dominate the palate, allowing only traces of that citrus to show through. Big gusts of smoke (from a smokehouse; meaty and intense), sweetness, like sweet-cured bacon.
Finish: Good length, big on peat, big on oil and salt.

Not unlike the 18 year old, but with more subtlety. The charachteristic LaPhroaig "toffee" is downright buttery, the smoke lies behind the scotch but lets the other flavors come out, and the iodine gives way to the salt and citrus. Very longggg finish.
