The Pogues Single Malt Bottling Note

Another Irish whiskey from The Pogues (yes, the band) and West Cork Distillers. The band's first foray into the world of whiskey was a brilliant Irish blend, and now we have a single malt, aged in bourbon oak casks before it was bottled up at 40% ABV. Now we're going to have Fairytale of New York stuck in our heads for the rest of the day.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fairly floral, with lavendar, sesame snaps, caramelised nuts and salted chocolate.

Palate: Dry oak spice and chai spices, with peanut butter, s'mores and floral malt.

Finish: A gentle finish of lingering caramel alongside cinnamon stick.

Pogues Single Malt Whiskey Reviews

I'll finish the bottle

For the price its not that bad. If your spending less that 20 quid you cant expect it to tick every box, some of these reviews are pretty harsh to be fair.
Tried a lot worse.

Great for the price

I liked it. Ok it's cheap, but palatable. Don't throw it down the sink. Send it to me 😉 I seem to like cheap malts. Glad I have a philistine pallet!!

Good for price, unusual, fast acting

£18 Sainsbury's. It's proper stuff. It's smooth has some acidity but only to the tongue. Strong immediate effect. Easy on stomach. I'd recommend it straight but cold from fridge.

Disappointed

Very disappointed with this whiskey, harsh on the pallet and unpleasant. I even poured it away and didn’t give it to a friend.

Very unpleasant

Even ginger ale didn't make better this stuff

18th April 2021

Silky smooth and very pleasant.

I don't really understand the harshly negative views on here. OK, it isn't complex but it is as smooth as silk and goes down very easily. It is also unlike any other whisky or whiskey that I've tried, with quite a wine-like quality. To the bloke who said he threw it down the sink: please send it my way next time, I'll cover your postage.

Don't do it.

This is the only whisky I've thrown down the sink. Actively unpleasant cotton like mouth feel.

Disappointing malt Irish

Not that good, very disappointing. My usual is Bushmills original which is much nicer.

Dreadful

Never again!

Bleurgh!

With regards to a previous review, “you get what you pay for” is incorrect - at least as far as whisky is concerned. Black Bottle and Ballantine’s Finest are fantastic drams which can be found £5-10 cheaper than this. Or Ancnoc 12 is a fine example of an entry level speysider only a couple of pounds more. This is just a horrible gimmicky drink with no love put into it. Perhaps it was blended, tasted and passed by Shane MacGowan himself?
