Tobermory 12 Year Old Bottling Note

Released in early 2019, this 12 year old single malt from Tobermory was launched in celebration of the distillery returning to life after a two year break! This expression slumbered peacefully in American oak casks for a dozen years before being bottled at 46.3% ABV. What a way to get back in the swing of things!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Pear, peach and apple, with a dusting of brown sugar. Greek yogurt, barley and a hint of cinnamon pastries.

Palate: Rounded malt notes once again, now a touch oily. Still packs a hearty helping of stone fruit sweetness.

Finish: A flash of orange peel, soft sawdust, toffee and dates.

Tobermory 12 Year Old Reviews

Tangs of peat, lots of peppery caramel

Fantastic malt for the price, on the palate you can taste just the slightest hint of peat, followed by amazing malty caramel overtones. Would highly recommend.

Lovely work in progress

Love the fruity sweet nose with vanilla spice, and the initial malty salted caramel flavours. Then that explosion of peppery spice was a bit too much, although it softened quickly to a lingering peppery tingling finish. Very nice, but could benefit from a bit more balance.

Lovely expression, well worth trying.

Lovely inviting notes on 'the nose'.
Expressively brought to life on 'the palate'.
Beautifully lingering on 'the finish'.

Fruity, creamy, some spice/citrus, malt, sweetness all well balanced and making a great whisky. The trouble is it's so nice it just ain't gonna last!

Well worth trying

Even better than I remember it. Cannot understand the review saying it is peaty as it definitely is not. ( although I do like peaty whiskies as well. Great that it is available again after a long period of not being available. Discounted price very welcome.

Good value

This is a decent malt though I'd say the strongest flavours are coming from the American oak. It's a route taken by deanston also and it does bolster the light spirit in a similar way. Someone mentioned peat notes but I suspect it was the effect and feel of the oak they were picking up. Anyway, good value if you like a bourbony scotch.
