Finlaggan Old Reserve Reviews

Old ashtray full of bandaids

I've never tasted something so awful in my entire life. I'd rather sip Canadian Club.

Costly fair whisky

Expected better... not great peaty, coarse. Gladly it was a gift. Will not buy this.

A Young Lagavulin?

Tasted the Finlaggan Old Reserve side-by-side with Lagavulin 8-yo in whisky sniffing glasses. Struggled to really tell them apart in the nose, palate & finish. The Lagavulin comes across as slightly more vibrant & more intense due possibly to its higher alcohol content. A great Islay find at nearly half the price of the Lagavulin!

Great value for peat heads

If you're a peat smoke lover, there's nothing to beat this at the price. If you're not: move on :-)

It's a 3-4 star Islay style whisky

If you're not familiar with the style, it's a good introduction at a very good price point.

Try this to find out if you like smokey, peaty whisky and then move on to Lagavulin, Ardbeg, or (the best) Laphroig.

Or, if you like the style, and want a daily drinker without spending $50 a pop, definitely go for it if you can.

will buy again

Like all single malts an acquired taste, which I enjoy, the smokey, peat, fishing net bouquet, makes it quite special.
It tastes better as one gets down the bottle, will recommend and buy again

Amazing single malt @ mediocre blend price

Cracks me up that everyone gives this smoky peaty very inexpensive either top stars or nearly none. I'm delighted to have found it in my local Trader Joe's because my local liquor stores don't carry any single malt in my price range. It reminds me of the lovely Laphroaig that I cannot afford but would drink every day if I could.

Don’t buy it!

I bought this one “on sale” at our local shop.
Regretted it the moment i opened the bottle.
That chemical smell! Just afwul. And even with some water added it just kept killing my tastebuds...not good!
I returned the bottle this afternoon. The shop owner wasn’t suprised. I was not the first one complaining about it.

Bought myself i nice Glenfarclass.. :-)
