The Macallan Quest range (originally released for the Travel Retail market) features four expressions showing off the many, many miles travelled to sources the casks to mature the Speyside whisky. The Lumina expression is made with whisky aged in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, as well as hogsheads. While sherry does get a good look-in with this one, it's a much more vanilla and toffee-focussed dram.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Poached pear and stewed apples, with a kick of black pepper underneath. Some treacle tart notes, too.
Caramelised nuts dusted with cinnamon, a whiff of waxy peels, guava.
Fizzy oak and ground nutmeg.
I'm not sure what people are tasting with the reviews so far, but in 25 years of whisky drinking, this has to be one of the most overpriced whiskies I have come across. The nose is pleasant enough but the taste and finish... Why is there such a dry and bitter finish. Not good at all.
Simply the best Malt available
Picked up a bottle to share with a friend on our trip to Mexico. Pleased with the smooth yet complex results. Ended up buying 2 more bottles on the way home. A fantastic whiskey for the price point!
Delightfully appealing on all levels, (nose, taste & finish) with a generally smooth and soothing taste overall.
Just opened this whisky that my daughter bought on a cruise ship, I have not seen in stores here in Canada. I love the texture (almost honey feeling) it definitely keeps the whisky on the tongue much longer allowing you fully appreciate the taste of toffee, and apples for me. Hope to see it on the shelves at my local LCBO stores in Ontario.
