Macallan Gold Double Cask Bottling Note

The Macallan Gold Double Cask is the released edition of The Macallan Gold from the 1824 series, which was discontinued in early 2018 to make way for the Double Cask, Triple Cask Matured and Sherry Oak ranges. This expression is drawn from a combination of American and European oak sherry-seasoned casks, making for a wonderful introduction to the Macallan flavour profile.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: This burnished gold spirit presents a lemon citrus nose, the orange peel and an interlacing sweetness that softens but doesn't eliminate the zest. A quiet note of vanilla is followed by dark chocolate - more assertive, yet not overly so - with a lingering floral and light oak notes.

Palate: Citrus and boiled sweets rule the palate, along with hints of ginger and cinnamon, while soft oak tones reveal toasted apples.

Finish: The finish is medium sweet, malty and slightly dry.

Macallan Gold Double Cask Reviews

Mild, sweet, less peat ...

Approachable for newbies ... sweet corn taste upfront. No backend taste (May lend to being called thin). Not peat taste at all. Still decent to sit and drink.

Mild, slightly sweet

Got this for Christmas and to be honest I quite like it.
I find it quite mild compared to Islay whiskeys. To the nose it smells somewhere between maple syrup and honey, quite appealing.
In the mouth its smooth but does give a good oral burn if swished for a moment or two.
Aftertaste is very mellow, to begin with it tastes like honey and a very light taste of oak but leaving a much lighter sweet sherry taste.
Overall I would say its a good whiskey if your new to whiskey as there is no offensive / strong flavours.
Ive really enjoyed it Probably more than I should, very drinkable.
Sadly its been rated far lower than what it should be rated at.
Another to try is Cameron Brigg ( if you can find it )

Dull, thin, poor dram

Deserves a half star for being natural colour but this is the blandest single malt I've ever had the misfortune of drinking.
Very thin and watery. Slightly sweet but lacking in any richness or depth of character.
Finish extremely short.
