A rich and well-balanced single malt from The Macallan, aged for 12 years in a mix of American and European Sherry oak casks. This maturation adds layers of vanilla, spice, and dried fruit, creating a classic Speyside whisky.
Here, the proportion of American oak ex-Sherry casks is higher than in the 12 Year Old Sherry Oak, but no ex-bourbon casks are used as they are in the 12 Year Old Fine Oak release.
Classic dried fruit territory, if less intense than the Sherry Oak expression. Aromatic butterscotch too.
Creamy and honeyed with some thick-cut marmalade, cinnamon and warm pastries.
Fruity with vanilla and sultana.
$53.24 - $383.36
This is only OK when compared to other cheaper 12 yo single malts. I much prefer the Arran 10 yo and Balblair 12 yo, each of which is distinctive in flavour has more character than this Macallan.
An excellent malt at a great price. One of my favourites.
Just tried the new double cask hoping to experience the old Macallan I used to love. Sadly the American oak flavour is too strong and it is now not worth the price. Compared the the Balvenie double wood, it comes in a distant second.
perfection in a bottle!
As smooth and flavourful as expected
